R.E.M. Unites for One Song Only

R.E.M. surprised fans with a rare live performance in Athens, Georgia recently, joining actor Michael Shannon and indie rocker Jason Narducy on stage at the 40 Watt Club.

The band played their 1984 classic “Pretty Persuasion,” marking only their second live appearance since 2007. Shannon and Narducy were headlining a tribute tour to R.E.M.’s “Fables of the Reconstruction,” performing the full album along with other hits.

Despite the excitement, R.E.M singer Michael Stipe previously made it clear a full reunion won’t happen, saying in 2021, “We decided when we split up that that would be really tacky and probably money grabbing.”
