Elton John owes Patti Labelle some Tupperware.
Appearing on Sherri, she said, "He was my piano player in London, for about a year [in the '60s]'” when the band he was in, Bluesology, backed her.
She invited the band to her apartment to play cards, where she says she "took all their pounds -- all their money,” And since they now had no money, she cooked for them. “They had no food, so I made them food to take home in my Tupperware. So my Tupperware is very important to me -- I don’t give it out.
“So I gave them some food to take back home, and they never paid me back. And I said to Elton, ‘I want my damn Tupperware!'”
Two years later Elton invited Patti to his show, which led her to ask, "'Who are you opening for?' He said, 'I’m Elton John now.' I said, ‘Ain’t that a witch?’ He made it before I did, right?!”
While the Tupperware remains MIA, he made it up to her in 2005 when he backed her on her recording of his hit "Your Song," and joined her on stage. "He took his rings off and put them on the piano. When we finished, I said, ‘Elton, there’s your ring’. He said, ‘That’s your Tupperware.'”
She still has the ring, which she says is beautiful.
In other Elton diva news, Madonna says they've buried the hatchet.
She writes on Facebook: "I went to see Elton John perform on SNL this weekend!! WOW.
"I remembered when I was in high school -- I snuck out of the house one night to see Elton perform live in Detroit! It was an unforgettable performance that helped me understand the transformative power of music.
"Seeing him perform when I was in high school changed the course of my life. I had always felt like an outsider growing up and watching him on stage helped me to understand that it was OK to be different -- to stand out -- to take the road less traveled by. In fact, it was essential.
"Over the decades it hurt me to know that someone I admired so much shared his dislike of me publicly as an artist. I didn’t understand it. I was told Elton John was the musical guest on SNL and I decided to go. I needed to go backstage and confront him. When I met him, the first thing out of his mouth was, 'Forgive Me' and the wall between us fell down. Forgiveness is a powerful tool. Within minutes. We were hugging.
"Then he told me had written a song for me and he wanted to collaborate. It was like everything came full circle!!
And you can tell everybody, This is Your Song..."
The feud dates back to 2004 when Elton criticized Madonna for lip-synching on stage, but he did apologize not long thereafter.
