While many still can't believe how Billy Joel married and eventually broke up with Christie Brinkley, there are now many men who can't believe his love for the bottle overshadowed his love for the supermodel.
In her forthcoming memoir, Uptown Girl (named after his song that was inspired by her), she writes, “To be clear, I never wanted to end things with Billy. But his drinking was bigger than the both of us.
“In the end, when the relationship isn’t functioning the way you want it to be anymore — that’s the worst kind of loneliness because you just can’t make it work together and that’s painful.”
The couple were married from 1985 to 1994 and have a daughter, Alexa Ray Joel.
Joel, who says he's now sober, is on to wife number-four, Alexis Roderick, who he wed in 2015.
Christie, who was married before her union to Joel, tied the knot two more times with both ending in divorce.
Uptown Girl will be published on April 29th.
