Sammy Hagar returns to Las Vegas this Wednesday for his first residency there since 2021 and '22 when he did 14 shows at The Strat.
The Best of All Worlds Tour Stays in Vegas is setting up shop at Dolby Live at Park MGM for nine shows through May 17th.
The show, which features a heavy concentration of Van Halen songs, features The Best of All Worlds Band, which toured last summer -- Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony, Joe Satriani on guitar, Rai Thistlethwayte from Satriani's band on keyboards, and Kenny Aronoff in place of Jason Bonham on drums. Aronoff filled in for Bonham on the last seven dates of The Best of All Worlds summer tour when he had to fly to England to attend to his mother Pat who had a stroke, but who is on the mend.
One of the songs he's been rehearsing for its live debut is his new one, "Encore. Thank You. Goodnight.", his tribute to Eddie Van Halen, which was released last week.
ALSO............
Sammy recently had a dream about Alex Van Halen, but it won't lead to another song.
Speaking to Rolling Stone, Hagar said, “It was crazy. And it was so friggin’ real. I was saying, ‘What are you pissed off at me about, man? What the [hell]? Now just tell me what your problem is. What did I do? Just tell me.'”
Alex laughed and asked, “You really don’t know, do you?”
Hagar and Alex used to be very close, but haven't spoken in 21 years. Not knowing he, all he can do is speculate, and among the things he thinks it could be are the success of his Cabo Wabo franchise, which the rest of Van Halen had a piece of but sold when it wasn't doing good. Another reason could be what Sammy wrote about Eddie in his memoir, Red: My Uncensored Life in Rock. Or, it could be because Sammy is still performing and Alex isn't.
“I would feel bad. If I put myself in his shoes, I would feel terrible if I couldn’t do it anymore,” he adds, “But I’m the happiest guy out of all of them. That pisses people off in itself. Being too happy, people don’t like that.
“And I’m okay with it. Al, you’re fine. Just leave me alone. I’ll leave you alone. Everything’s good. I’m making you money, by the way, Al … I’m out there selling Van Halen records and keeping the name alive, keeping the music alive.”
Alex hasn't commented on this story, but we did ask him last November about his comment that Hagar wasn't doing justice to Van Halen music on The Best of All Worlds tour.
