John Fogerty Posts Highlights from 80th Birthday Concert

A COUPLE OF UPDATES TO BELOW STORY....

John Fogerty has posted on Instagram highlights from his 80th birthday concert last Wednesday at New York’s Beacon Theatre.

John Fogerty used the occasion of his 80th birthday concert last night at New York's Beacon Theatre to announce a new album.

Legacy: The Creedence Clearwater Revival Years -- John's Version contains 20 classic CCR tracks that he recorded with his band, which includes his sons Shane and Tyler.

The 20 songs are:

  1. Up Around the Bend
  2. Who’ll Stop the Rain
  3. Proud Mary
  4. Have You Ever Seen the Rain
  5. Lookin’ Out My Back Door
  6. Born on the Bayou
  7. Run Through the Jungle
  8. Someday Never Comes
  9. Porterville
  10. Hey Tonight
  11. Lodi
  12. Wrote a Song For Everyone
  13. Bootleg
  14. Don’t Look Now
  15. Long as I Can See the Light
  16. Down on the Corner
  17. Bad Moon Rising
  18. Travelin’ Band
  19. Green River
  20. Fortunate Son

Fogerty says he wanted to call it Taylor's Version as a nod to Taylor Swift who did the same thing, but the record label didn't go for it.

Legacy: The Creedence Clearwater Revival Years -- John's Version will be released on August 22nd, and the first three singles are out now -- "Up Around the Bend," "Have You Ever Seen the Rain" and "Porterville."

This is not the first time Fogerty has re-recorded some of his CCR songs. In 2013 he included 10 of them on his duets album, Wrote a Song for Everyone, and in 2020, during the pandemic, he recorded six of them with his kids on Fogerty’s Factory.

Fogerty does a second show at the Beacon this Thursday.

John Fogerty celebrates a milestone birthday today as he turns 80.

Asked what he's thinking about the big day, he tells us, "I suppose there are a lot of things on my mind."

Born in the Bay Area on May 28th, 1945, Fogerty will mark the occasion on the East Coast with two shows at the Beacon Theater in New York tonight and tomorrow.

And one of Fogerty's gifts to us is his new version of his Creedence Clearwater Revival classic "Up Around the Bend" with country singer Eric Church.

It debuted Sunday during the Coca-Cola 600 in Charlotte, North Carolina and will be the racing association's theme song for the year.

Having achieved success as a member of CCR and then on his own, Fogerty is an Army Reserve veteran and a member of both the Rock & Roll Hall and Songwriters Hall of Fame. His “Centerfield” baseball bat guitar is in the National Baseball Hall of Fame.

He is married to his second wife, Julie, and has seven children -- three with his first, and three with Julie, who has a daughter from a previous marriage. His two sons with Julie -- Shane and Tyler -- are in his band.
