Foo Fighters-Nine Inch Nails Drummer Swap

Nine Inch Nails and Foo Fighters have pulled off a drummer swap.

Wednesday afternoon Nine Inch Nails posted an Instagram Story with a photo of Josh Freese with the caption "Let's [bleeping] go."

Then a couple minutes later The Hollywood Reporter published a story that revealed Ilan Rubin, a Rock Hall member with Nine Inch Nails since 2009, was joining Foo Fighters for their upcoming tour.

A source close to Nine Inch Nails told the Reporter that Rubin had committed to Nine Inch Nails through this year but informed Trent Reznor last week that he had “accepted a job with another band.”

It's not clear if Rubin will just be a touring drummer or become a full-time member of the Foos. Freese was fired from the Foos back in May. Dave Grohl and company are returning to the road in October with a brief run of shows in Asia.

As for Nine Inch Nails, Freese coming on board is a reunion. He served as their live drummer from 2005 to 2008 and left -- and was replaced by Rubin -- so he could get off the road and focus on helping to raise his two sons. Freese will have to get up to date on the band's current setup pretty quickly. The North American leg of Nine Inch Nails Peel it Back tour starts August 6th in Oakland.
