Chubby Checker has been a longtime critic of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame because, despite being eligible for induction since the Hall's first class in 1986, he wasn't nominated until this year.
Finally nominated for the first time and elected earlier this year, he says he won't be attending the November 8th ceremony.
So, during his show on July 27th in Des Plaines, Illinois, he was presented with his Rock Hall trophy.
A source close to the situation tells us, "The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame makes every effort to celebrate each Inductee in a meaningful way, and occasionally that means finding alternate opportunities to recognize them if they’re unable to attend the ceremony."
Joining Chubby in the Class of 2025 are Bad Company, Joe Cocker, Cyndi Lauper, The White Stripes, Soundgarden, Outkast, Warren Zevon, Salt-N-Pepa, keyboardist Nicky Hopkins and Wrecking Crew bassist Carol Kaye, who, like Chubby, will also not be attending the induction ceremony on November 8th at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.
We reached out to the Rock Hall for comment but have not heard back.
