The tinted prescription glasses John Lennon wore in 1973 and '74 during the time that was dubbed his “Lost Weekend” are headed back to the auction block.
He lost the specs in March 1974 during a fight at the Troubadour in West Hollywood, California when he and an equally drunk Harry Nilsson were escorted out of the club after heckling The Smothers Brothers.
The glasses first sold at auction in 1987 and again in 2008, and now they're being offered as part of Propstore’s Music Memorabilia Live Auction on October 24th.
They're estimated to sell for between $200- and $400,000. Details at PropstoreAuction.com.
In other Lennon news, a video has been released for “Sunday Bloody Sunday” from the forthcoming box set, Power to the People (Super Deluxe Edition). It will be out on October 10th, the day after what would have been his 80th birthday.
The song was written about the 13 marchers who were killed by members of the First Battalion, Parachute Regiment in Derry, Northern Ireland on January 30th, 1972, which has come to be known as "Bloody Sunday."
The video reflects many of the senseless political murders since then, including his own on December 8th, 1980 as it ends with his bloody eye glasses from that night.
