The Rolling Stones gave us a first taste of their forthcoming 25th studio album, Foreign Tongues, when they quietly released a "white label" vinyl pressing of "Rough and Twisted" on Saturday under the alias, The Cockroaches.
Available at select independent record shops before selling out, the four-and-a-half-minute bluesy road-trip romp features sharp guitar interplay from Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood, with Mick Jagger singing and blowing a nasty harp.
It's not known if "Rough and Twisted" will be the first official single released next month, though there's talk of "listening events" ahead of the album's June release.
Foreign Tongues, produced by Andrew Watt, follows 2023's Hackney Diamonds and includes songs recorded last year along with tracks left over from those sessions.
In the late '70s and early '80s, the Stones billed themselves as The Cockroaches, or Blue Sunday and the Cockroaches, when they played surprise shows in Toronto, Atlanta and Worcester, Massachusetts.
