The final album Dr. John was working on at the time of his death, Things Happen That Way, will be released on September 23rd. It contains covers of songs by Hank Williams, The Traveling Wilburys, and Willie Nelson. Nelson duets with the Doctor on “Gimme That Old Time Religion,” his son’s band, Lukas Nelson and Promise of the Real, play on “I Walk on Guilded Splinters,” and Aaron Neville joins him on a cover of the Wilburys’ “End of the Line.” Dr. John died of a heart attack on June 6th, 2019 at age 77.
