The Who's, John Entwistle Died 20 Years Ago - "the Real Me" Drums n' Bass

In recognition of Monday, being the 20th anniversary of the death of Who bassist John Entwistle, audio of the isolated bass and drum track from “The Real Me” has been posted on the band’s Facebook page, as well as YouTube, with the caption, “If you were ever in any doubt, believe us when we say THIS is drum'n'bass. Turn it up LOUD and enjoy.”

The Who's bassist John Entwistle left us 20 years ago this Monday, June 27th, 2002, when he died of a heart attack induced by cocaine use in his Las Vegas hotel room on the eve of an extensive tour.

He was born in Chiswick, West London on October 9, 1944 and was known as "The Ox" and "Thunderfingers." He was voted "Bassist of the Millennium" in Musician magazine at the end of the 20th century.

Among his more popular contributions to The Who's song catalog were "Boris the Spider" and "My Wife."

When not working with The Who, Entwistle led his own band; was a member of Ringo Starr's All Starr Band in 1995; and loved to fish and paint. His drawing of the band graces the cover of The Who By Numbers album.

Despite the loss, Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey went ahead with the tour, starting four days later in Los Angeles with Pino Palladino filling in on bass.

Entwistle, who was 57, last rehearsed with The Who on June 13th, 2002.
