Eric Clapton continues to release singles, with the latest quietly coming out yesterday.
Based on its title, one can't wonder if "Pompous Fool” was coincidental or timed to follow Boris Johnson's resignation earlier in the day.
Not a fan of the British Prime Minister, whose administration has been marred by numerous scandals, including his recent appointment of a politician who'd been accused of sexual misconduct, Clapton sings:
“Don’t you worry, don’t be blue / Let your woman, take care of you / Live your life, by the golden rule / Pay no mind, to the pompous fool.”
Clapton spoke out against Johnson last year over his COVID protocols, specifically requiring anyone attending concerts to show proof of vaccination.
He said, "I wish to say that I will not perform on any stage where there is a discriminated audience present. Unless there is provision made for all people to attend, I reserve the right to cancel the show.”
Clapton followed this up a month later with the release of the song “This Has Gotta Stop,” which was his third anti-lockdown song following "Stand and Deliver" and "The Rebels."
