Today, August 16th, is INXS Day. It commemorates the 45th anniversary of the first show by The Farriss Brothers, a band that would soon be renamed INXS.
The show was held at a house party in Whale Beach, Sydney, Australia. Since then, INXS has sold more than 70 million albums worldwide, making them one of Australia's biggest-selling music acts of all-time.
To mark the milestone, the day will launch with an exclusive hour-long TikTok live stream celebrating the 35th anniversary of their biggest selling album, 1987's KICK. It features a track-by-track look at the album, and interviews with the band and their executive music producer Giles Martin. The live stream will be shown at 4 p.m. Texas time.
INXS are also be celebrating the 40th anniversary of their breakthrough album, 1982's Shabooh Shoobah in October with a deluxe digital box set featuring 15 songs on streaming services for the first time, along with two special vinyl releases.
INXS Day will also see the announcement that their 2011 compilation, The Very Best, has been mixed in Dolby Atmos. The album recently celebrated 500 weeks in the Australian Top 100 ARIA charts.
Speaking about the Atmos process, guitarist Tim Farriss says, “What Giles Martin has done is to not only recreate the original mixes but now you're blown away because you hear all this stuff that you just didn’t hear before.” (Farriss also celebrates his 64th birthday Tuesday.)
INXS will also celebrate the 30th anniversary of their 1992 album, Welcome to Wherever You Are, with five videos, all upgraded to HD. They are for the songs “Heaven Sent,” “Baby Don’t Cry,” “Taste It,” “Beautiful Girl,” and "Not Enough Time."
