With the arrival of a blue supermoon comes another new song from Peter Gabriel off his forthcoming album, i/o. He says “Love Can Heal” is a “dreamy, experiential piece with some abstract imagery, a carpet of sound, a tapestry where things are woven together, but not necessarily supposed to stick out, but just form part of a whole.” It will be available to stream this Thursday. Still no word on when i/o will be released.
With a new moon, Peter Gabriel has released another mix of “So Much” off his forthcoming album, i/o. He says, “The reason I chose ‘So Much’ as a title is because I’m addicted to new ideas and all sorts of projects. I get excited by things and want to jump around and do different things. I love being in a mess of so much! And yet it also means there's just so much time, or whatever it is, available. Balancing them both is what the song is about.” Still no word on when i/o will be released.
With the summer’s first full moon this past weekend, Peter Gabriel has released “So Much,” the seventh song off his new album, i/o. He says, “‘So Much’ is about mortality, getting old, all the bright, cheerful subjects, but I think when you get to my sort of age you either run away from mortality or you jump into it and try and live life to the full and that always seems to make a lot more sense to me. The countries that seem most alive are those that have death as part of their culture.” Gabriel still hasn’t announced a release date for the album.
Peter Gabriel has released the "Dark Side Mix" of "Road to Joy," the sixth song off his upcoming album, i/o. The “Road to Joy (Bright Side mix)” was released two weeks ago.
Peter Gabriel has released a sixth song off his upcoming album, i/o. It’s “Road to Joy (Bright Side mix),” and features the Soweto Gospel Choir in addition to members of Gabriel’s touring band, including longtime collaborators Tony Levin, David Rhodes and Manu Katché. Check it out on YouTube. There’s still no word as to exactly when the album is actually coming out.
It's another full moon, which means it's time for another new song from Peter Gabriel.
Keeping up with his marketing plan to release a new track each time our orbiting partner is fully illuminated, his latest track is “Four Kinds of Horses” off his forthcoming album, i/o. It features Brian Eno on synthesizer.
Gabriel says, "One of the inspirations is the Buddhist parable of the Four Kinds of Horses, which describes different ways a student can approach their spiritual practice, but also the interesting overlap of religion and peace on the one hand and violence and terrorism on the other.
“There was also a wonderful film by Hany Abu-Assad called Paradise Now which shows two young men who end up being trained to become terrorists, and it’s a real insight into where the head goes.”
i/o will be out this summer, though he has yet to announce a date.
In the meantime, Gabriel is preparing for his tour, which starts on May 18th in Krakow, Poland, with the North American leg following on September 8th in Quebec City, Canada.
With that full moon last night, Peter Gabriel has released another song off his forthcoming album, i/o.
This time it's the "Brightside Mix" of the title track featuring the Soweto Gospel Choir.
Gabriel says, “This month the song is ‘i/o‘ and i/o means input / output. You see it on the back of a lot of electrical equipment and it just triggered some ideas about the stuff we put in and pull out of ourselves, in physical and non-physical ways [when it] comes to the inter-connectedness of everything.
“The older I get, I probably don’t get any smarter, but I have learned a few things and it makes a lot of sense to me that we are not these independent islands that we like to think we are, that we are part of a whole. If we can see ourselves as better connected, still messed-up individuals, but as part of a whole, then maybe there’s something to learn?”
i/o will be out later this year, and Gabriel starts a tour in support of it on May 18th in Krakow, Poland, with North American dates starting on September 8th in Quebec City.
As he promised, a new full moon has brought another Peter Gabriel single from his upcoming album in alignment. The former Genesis singer has dropped “Playing For Time” off “i/o,” due out later this year. "'Playing for Time' … (has) been an important song for me," said Gabriel. "It's about time, mortality and memories, and the idea that each of us has a planet full of memories which get stashed inside the brain.”
In addition to the new single, the singer has announced a North American tour to promote “i/o.” The singer will kick off in Canada on September 8th and make a wide-reaching tour of the US before wrapping up on October 13th in Los Angeles.
