Jason Bonham says he recently uncovered a box of reel-to-reel Led Zeppelin studio tapes that his dad -- their late drummer John Bonham -- had brought home from a recording session to listen to.
Speaking on The Vinyl Guide podcast, he says that he's yet to unbox the tapes and is a bit worried that they may have deteriorated over time to the point where "you put them in the machine and it just erases them the moment you press start." He says he may try to bake them at a low temperature before he actually tries to play them -- a method often used to save old reel-to-reel tapes.
He suggests that when he finally unboxes the tapes he may do it on YouTube. Once he's discovered what's on the tapes the next step would be to figure out with Robert Plant, Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones if there's anything previously unheard and, if so, what to do with it...or them.
