Foreigner's Mick Jones Opens Up About Having Parkinsons

Mick Jones has toured on and off with Foreigner for a few years for an undisclosed medical reason. And now he's revealed that it's because he has Parkinson's disease.

He posted a statement on Wednesday morning that says, "Several years ago, I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. I want everyone to know that I am doing alright. However, I’ve always liked to be at my best when performing onstage, and sadly, at present, I find that a bit difficult...

"I am still very much involved in the background with Foreigner and remain a presence. Parkinson’s is a daily struggle; the important thing is to persevere and remind myself of the wonderful career I’ve had in music. I thank all the fans who have supported Foreigner throughout the years and continue to attend our concerts -- I want you to know I appreciate your support; it always means so very much to me, but especially so at this point in my life."

Foreigner announced a farewell tour last year with dates scheduled through the end of this summer. And they've been nominated for the first time for induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

As for the Hall, producer and artist Mark Ronson, Mick's stepson, has put together an Instagram video that features Dave GrohlJack BlackSlash, Chad Smith and Queens of the Stone Age’s Josh Homme all making their case for why Foreigner should be elected for induction.

“Everything that made me want to be a record producer came from being in the studio watching Foreigner make records,” says Ronson. “It’s also kind of crazy that this is the first time they’ve ever been on the ballot for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame – after 20 years of eligibility...

“Yes, Mick is my stepdad and I love him more than anything. But I’m also a MEGA fan just like Dave, Jack, Slash, Chad and Josh… Enjoy this video and VOTE BABY VOTE!”

And in the video, Grohl says, “I’ve loved Foreigner since I got their debut record. There’s one drum riff that I have used in more than a few songs.”

You can vote for up to seven artists a day through April 26th at The top five artists selected by the public will comprise a “fans’ ballot” that will be tallied along with the other ballots to determine the 2024 Inductees.

Inductees will be announced at the end of April. The Induction Ceremony will take place this fall in Cleveland with the date and venue to be announced.
