Billy Idol will be in New York this Tuesday for the premiere at the Tribeca Festival of his documentary Billy Idol Should Be Dead, which will he'll follow with a performance.
He tells The Ankler, “I think the documentary has got a depth to it, as we really worked on it over quite a long period of time. I think it’s a really great documentary that shows a lot of aspects of my life.”
And he touched on all aspects, warts and all.
"You just have to own it and you realize what happened, whatever it was, the drug addiction or whatever else and own the different periods of my life. It all led to something: The bad stuff and the good stuff somehow ended up fusing [into] the music I’ve made.”
Also during the interview with The Ankler, he was asked about Sting portraying him in 1991 during a sketch on Saturday Night Live, "The Sinatra Group,” where Phil Hartman as Frank Sinatra hosted a talk show in which he did a group interview with "Billy Idol," "Sinead O'Connor," "Steve Lawrence" and "Eydie Gorme," and "Luther Campbell" from 2 Live Crew.
“Sting’s wife, Trudie [Styler], told me that when he went into the dressing room after playing me, she got him to have sex with [her] as me. So that was a great caveat to the sketch. She said, ‘[Screw] me as Billy Idol.’ And he did.”
Include the video of the sketch and a Billy Idol video.
