50 Years Ago Today, Fleetwood Mac Releases the So-Called "White Album"

Fleetwood Mac's 1975 self-titled album, their first with Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks, has just been certified nine-times platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America.

Released 50 years ago today -- July 11th, 1975 -- and sometimes referred to by fans as the "White Album," it contains such classics as "Monday Morning", "Rhiannon", "Over My Head", "Say You Love Me", "Landslide", "World Turning", and "I'm So Afraid". (Fleetwood Mac's other self-titled album is their first one, releases in 1968.)

In the fall of 1974, Mick Fleetwood met Buckingham at Sound City Studios in Los Angeles and engineer Keith Olsen played him a track off 1973's Buckingham Nicks album.

Ironically, Fleetwood was only interested in Buckingham joining, but he only agreed to join if Stevie were included.

It obviously turned out to be a good decision, but it soon spelled the end for Lindsey and Stevie, with Mick being one of the many boyfriends she would go on to have.

And in 2018, it was Stevie who gave the band an ultimatum -- either Lindsey goes or she does. Lindsey was shown the door.

And the curtain came down on Fleetwood Mac in 2022 following the death of Christine McVie
