In 1981 Asia went #1 on the Billboard Charts with their self-titled debut, giving the veteran members of the supergroup their biggest commercial success.
Formed in London in 1981, former King Crimson and UK bassist/singer John Wetton, joined Yes guitarist Steve Howe, and keyboardist Geoff Downes who left Yes with Howe, after hitting big with the Buggles, as well as drummer Carl Palmer from Emerson, Lake & Palmer. Their debut album, would be their best-selling album powered by the lead single, "Heat of the Moment", which peaked at #4 on the U.S. on the Billboard Hot 100.
They would follow that with "Only Time Will Tell", which got heavy play on MTV and peaked in the top 20 of the Billboard Charts, while the single "Soul Survivor" would be their second single to hit the top 10, cementing the album as one of the most successful of the year.
