It's Debbie Harry's Birthday!

Happy Birthday Debbie Harry!

The lead singer of Blondie is one of the biggest legends in rock! She co-formed the band in 1974 in New York, where they made their bones by helping spark the Punk generation at CBGB's. Blondie released their debut album in 76 and and followed with three more classic albums to round out the decade.

"Parallel Lines" spawned six singles, including "Heart of Glass", which clearly pushed Blondie out of the punk scene, as record exec Seymour Stein re-labled them as New Wave. Riding their new look and sound Blondie ran hot into the 80's with "Autoamerican" in 1980, which produced their hit cover of "The Tide Is High", and the early Hip-Hop influenced "Rapture", which is considered the first rap song to chart at number one on Billboard.

Blondie would take a break Harry would release her debut solo album, KooKoo, in 1981. This would lead to an acting career, starring in David Cronenberg's Videodrome, and John Waters's cult film Hairspray. Blondie would reunite in the 90s, releasing No Exit in 1999, as Harry would continue her acting career. By 2006 Blondie would be inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame, following a legendary run with over 40 million records worldwide.

Happy Birthday Deborah, you're a true pioneer that set the tone and look for what it is to be a Queen of Rock!
