Keith Richards has had some brushes with the law over the years, but one of his most infamous came in 1977, on this date; February 27th when he shot up on a flight from London to Toronto.
When he landed authorities found his spoon in the pocket of then girlfriend Anita Pallenberg. After being up for days on smack Keith crashed at the hotel. The authorities had intercepted a package Keith had sent ahead (with drugs) to the hotel, and they had to wait for him to wake up to bust him.
He was charged with possession of heroin with intent to traffic.
With his lawyers on the case, Richards decided to go to rehab, a special neuroelectric acupuncture recommended by his friend Eric Clapton.
Fortunately it worked. Richards plead guilty to possession, and his lawyers managed a plea-bargain down from trafficking. He was given a year of probation and a one-year suspended sentence.
Much to the joy of Stones fans everywhere.
