It was the perfect ending to an imperfect season.
The Dallas Stars wrapped their 2016/17 campaign with a matchup against the Colorado Avalanche in a battle of Western Conference cellar-dwellers.
The game was tied in overtime when it appeared John Klingberg had won it for the Stars on a beautiful wrist shot. The place went nuts, I announced the goal, even proclaimed "STARS WIN!!"
But the referees had other ideas. You'll see in the video below... after a review it was determined Tyler Seguin's skate was offsides prior to the goal.
It was the right call. NO goal. The Stars did not win.
After the overtime ended, the game would be decided in a shootout.
Skip to the 4:20 mark of the video below to see Tyler Seguin exact his revenge with a sneaky-sick wrist shot for a shootout goal.
Then Stars goalie Kari Lehtonen would stop Avs forward (and fellow Finn) Mikko Rantanen.
And for the second time (and now 100% accurate) I proclaimed.... STARS WIN!!!
Crazy finish indeed... but alls well that ends well, especially on Fan Appreciation Night.
Here's what transpired after the win, as Tyler Seguin collected the Normandy Homes 3-Stars Award, as well as the Mike Modano Scoring Award for the 2016-17 season.
Then it was time for team captain Jamie Benn to say a few words to the fans.
Then the annual tradition of Stars players giving select lucky fans the jerseys off their backs!
