Today, Richard Stephen Sambora, the American rock guitarist, producer, singer and songwriter, best known as the lead guitarist of Bon Jovi for 30 years turn 59.
Bon Jovi added Sambora to replace original lead guitarist Dave Sabo. Sambora had attended a live show of Bon Jovi, and after being impressed, approached Jon Bon Jovi and told him that he thought they should work together. They immediately hit it off as friends, and Sambora was invited to a rehearsal. By the time Jon arrived, the band was sounding better than ever and Sambora was hired on the spot.
Sambora left Bon Jovi prior to a concert in Calgary during 2013’s Because We Can tour, and stayed away until he returned earlier this year when the band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
