Beatles 'Butcher' Cover LP Owned By John Lennon Sells For $233,511

As a vinyl collector myself, this blows my mind. First off, fans of The Beatles as well as record collectors know, it's next to impossible to find a the “butcher” cover of the classic album Yesterday and Today, which showed the Fabs covered in raw meat and decapitated baby dolls. The record label recalled it, destroyed it, and removed it from sale in 1966. So, when you talk about that particular album and cover AND it was the personal copy owned by none other than John Lennon himself, you can start to understand it's value. According to the story in NME.com, John Lennon kept the album on the wall of his New York apartment, until he gifted it to Dave Morrell, a lifelong Beatles fan and bootleg collector. The album is signed by Lennon, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, making it the only “butcher” album featuring three Beatles’ signatures. The album just sold at auction for £180,000 ($233,511) – the third-highest price ever paid for a vinyl record. You may remember back in 2015 when Ringo Starr’s rare copy of The White Album became the most expensive vinyl record sold for $790,000
