It was on this day in 1982 Sony introduced the Compact Disc Player in Tokyo and it wasn't cheap. The first generation of CD players cost upward of $650. (in 2018 prices that would be roughly $1,700). It's also interesting to note that not many titles were initially available. The first 50 titles were also released in Japan on 1 October 1982, the very first of which was a rerelease of the Billy Joel album 52nd Street.
